Privacy

ViewMarkdown is a tool that runs in your browser. This page explains, in plain English, what happens to anything you type here.

Your documents are never uploaded

Rendering, copying and every export, including Word, PDF and HTML, happen on your own device using JavaScript in the page. There is no server that receives your text, so there is nothing for us to read, store or hand to anyone else. Nothing is sent to a server while you work.

Local drafts

So you do not lose work when you close the tab, the editor keeps a copy of your current draft in your browser’s localStorage. That copy stays on your computer, is readable only by this site in this browser, and is replaced as you type. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.

Analytics and cookies

We do not set advertising cookies, we do not run third-party trackers, and we never record the contents of your document. If basic, aggregate traffic measurement is ever added, it will count page views only.

Files you open

When you open or drop a .md file, your browser reads it locally to fill the editor. The file itself is not copied or sent anywhere.
